7 new restaurants in Mumbai with photogenic interiors

If you pick restaurants based on not just the cuisine they offer but their ambience and interiors as well, here are some new restaurants in Mumbai that you should bookmark. After all, who doesn’t love a great backdrop for their ‘gram?

One8 Commune, Juhu

Virat Kohli’s new restaurant, One8 Commune is the talk of the town for many reasons. Nestled in Juhu, One8 Commune is located in legendary singer Kishore Kumar’s bungalow, and is designed by Minal Chopra. Kohli’s intent for creating this space was to bring in elements from across the world in a setting that is free-spirited and comfortable. Chopra has peppered the place with artefacts and artworks that go from classic to quirky, and aren’t defined by a singular school of design. When here, do try dishes from Kohli’s favourites as well as take a pick from delicacies ranging from Maharashtrian lamb curry to Peruvian grill fish.

Starbucks Reserve, Fort

India’s first Starbucks Reserve in Mumbai offers small-lot, single origin coffees from around the world. The setting is unlike other Starbucks cafes, featuring a monolithic terrazzo bar where you can watch your favourite coffee being brewed. Above it is an installation by Ankon Mitra, reminiscent of clouds. Walk ahead and you see a large mural in vibrant hues that comes alive through an AR filter on your smartphone. The use of rustic materials like rattan and wood with earthy hues, lend it an Indian touch. Take your pick from brewing methods like nitro, siphon, chemix and more, and pair them with croissants, bagels and scones.

La Loca Maria, Bandra

Helmed by Chef Manuel Olveira and his wife Mickee Tuljapurkar, La Loca Maria offers an extensive food and drinks menu featuring Spanish and Mediterranean gastronomy. The eclectic space is designed by Minal Chopra and is an interpretation of Spanish architecture. The colour palette is essentially beige, green, white and brown reminiscent of the chef’s home — the UNESCO heritage city of Toledo in Spain. Hand-painted murals depicting Spanish culture, ornate mirrors, textured walls and natural stone arches give the interiors an authentic vibe. The bar area too features a tapestry-clad facade while the space is filled with a selection of pottery art. Savour the tapas menu, try authentic Arrocería (rice dishes) and relish the hearty mains giving you a slice of Spain in the city.
