The International Day of Yoga was celebrated across India on Wednesday, with senior leaders and federal ministers leading yoga sessions.

Thousands of people congregated at the yoga sessions in the morning hours across the country, indulging in physical exercises and practicing different yoga poses.

Starting in 2015, this is the 9th International Day of Yoga celebrated across the globe. Proposed by India, it was adopted by the United Nations in the form of a resolution in December 2014.

Emphasizing the importance of yoga, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a video message that it created a healthy and powerful society where the collective energy was much more.
