Omicron Specific mRNA-Based Booster Vaccine Developed in India

The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has approved the emergency use authorization of an Omicron-specific mRNA-based booster vaccine developed with indigenous platform technology.

The federal Ministry of Science and Technology made the announcement on Tuesday, saying the booster vaccine against COVID-19 is developed by Gennova Biopharmaceuticals Ltd.

The development of the booster vaccine was supported under the Mission COVID Suraksha (Protection), implemented by the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC).

Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh said that the ministry always supports technology-driven innovation towards the creation of a future-ready technology platform.
