ADB to Help Improve Kids’ Access to Nurturing Care in India

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) on Wednesday said it has approved a 40.5 million U.S. dollars loan to improve access to nurturing care for kids in India.

The Manila-based bank said the early childhood development project will improve nutrient adequacy by adding eggs to the diet of pregnant and lactating women, as well as children 0.5 to six years of age.

The project will also upgrade 1,800 daycare centers and construct 600 new ones in hard-to-reach areas in India to strengthen childcare.

“The project aims to improve access to nurturing care, including a component of maternal mental health care and group-based parenting programs to enable the inclusion of fathers in caregiving,” the ADB said.
