Two people were killed, and five others injured early Sunday after a two-story building collapsed in the western Indian state of Maharashtra, officials said.
The building collapsed on Darga Road in Bhiwandi area of Thane district, about 37 km northeast of Mumbai, the capital city of Maharashtra.
“Early today a building collapsed here trapping seven people. The rescuers swung into action and pulled out the bodies of a woman and an infant from the debris. Five others were rescued in injured condition and immediately hospitalized,” a civic official said.
The rescue operation lasted for several hours.
