8 Injured as Private Aircraft Crash Lands in India’s Mumbai

Eight people were injured Thursday evening after a private small aircraft crash landed amid heavy rains at the airport in India’s Mumbai, local media reported.

Eight people, including three crew members, were on board when the plane skidded off the runway and snapped into two parts on landing.

Following the accident, the runway operations at the airport were put on hold for some time, resulting in delays in arrival and departure of flights.

A brief statement issued by the airport said the runway excursion involved a Learjet 45 aircraft VT-DBL, operating a flight from Vizag to Mumbai, and the runway was open for operations after Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) clearance at 6:47 p.m. local time.

Reports said the visibility at the time of the incident at the airport was 700 meters.

Closed-circuit television camera footage of the crash shows the plane striking the ground with considerable force and the aircraft body skidding along the ground.
