11 Killed in 2 Fire Mishaps in India

At least 11 persons died and around 40 were injured in two separate fire incidents in India on Friday, local media reported.

A massive fire broke out inside a multi-storey building in the Goregaon area of financial capital Mumbai in the south-western Maharashtra state, killing seven persons and injuring nearly 40.

Five among the injured were said to be in critical condition, while four persons were discharged from the hospital after first aid.

According to the latest media reports, the blaze had been brought under control and cooling efforts were underway. Investigations were on to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.

During the night intervening Thursday-Friday, another fire inside a pharmaceutical factory in the Amritsar area of Punjab state claimed the lives of four laborers.

Large quantities of chemicals inside the factory may have led to the fire. However, there was no official confirmation of what caused the incident.
