India on Wednesday announced the resumption of visa services in Canada, said an official source in India’s Ministry of External Affairs.

An official announcement in this regard by the Indian High Commission in Ottawa said that the decision was taken “after a considered view of the security situation that takes into account some recent Canadian measures in this regard.”

The resumption of selected visa services by India in Canada would begin with effect from Thursday.

Over a month ago, India suspended visa services to Canadian nationals because of the “safety and security considerations” of the Indian diplomats in Canada.

The two countries had been engaged in a diplomatic row for the past few weeks after the Canadian government blamed India for the killing of a religious leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada.
