At least one person died and 10 others were injured in a train mishap in India’s southern state of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday evening, an Indian Railways official confirmed.
The mishap occurred in Vizianagram district of Andhra Pradesh.
While initial reports suggested that it was a train derailment, media reports claimed later that it was a mishap between two trains.
Rescue work is hampered at the site due to darkness, said the official.
According to state government officials, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy directed local officials to take immediate relief measures and to send as many ambulances as possible from nearby districts.
