Kerala Muslim body, Samastha Kerala Sunni Yuvajana Sangham (SYS), has “blamed” the ruling CPI(M) and its youth wing organisations – Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), and Students Federation of India (SFI) — of encouraging inter-faith marriages.
Leader of the Muslim organisation, Nazar Faizi Koodathayi, alleged on Wednesday that the CPI(M) and its youth wing organisations kidnap Muslim girls and get them married to non-Muslim boys to “eradicate Islamic identity”. He said this while speaking at a program of the Sunni Mahal Federation in Kerala’s Kozhikode.
“If a Hindu marries a Muslim only then it’s Bharatiya culture and secularism for some people. In party offices, with the support of party leaders, Muslim girls are abducted and married off to non-Muslim boys by CPIM, DYFI and SFI. They are promoting inter-faith marriages as an agenda. The Mahallu Committees must come together and oppose this disastrous campaign. This is designed to eradicate the Islamic identity. The Mahallu community should not allow them to do this in party offices”, he said.
The DYFI, however, refuted the claims and said that marriage is a personal choice.
DYFI state secretary VK Sanoj said that marriage and religion are personal and that “nobody has the right to stand between a person and their choices”.
