India’s Department of Justice (DoJ) is providing free pre-litigation advice for marginalized communities through “Tele-law,” said an official statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Law and Justice on Wednesday.
The Tele-law program uses video-conferencing to connect citizens with lawyers stationed at Legal Services Authorities.
The DoJ has partnered with the National Legal Services Authority and e-Governance Service India Limited to provide mainstream legal aid for the poor and marginalized sections of society.
Tele-law aims to bridge the digital divide using communication and information technology for legal advice delivery. The program caters to around 4.2 million beneficiaries in nearly 100,000 village councils across India.
